Enter scores for a subject

Scores live under a class. Open Classes, pick the class, then the Scores tile, and choose the term, the subject and the component you are marking.

There is no Save button — marks save as you type. The bar along the bottom of the screen tells you what has and has not been stored, and it is worth learning to read.

The subject and component lists come from the school each time you open the screen. Pick them while you have a connection.

Once you are on the list of students, marks are stored on the phone and sent when the connection returns — so you can mark a full class in a room with no bars, provided you got that far first.

With no signal from the start you will not even see the Scores tile on the class, and opening the screen shows “You don’t teach any subjects in this class yet” — which is the same message you would get if you genuinely were not assigned to it.

This is the one thing to take from this page.

Leaving a box empty means no entry yet. It is not recorded as 0 and it does not overwrite anything, so a student who was absent, or whose script you have not marked, can be left blank and returned to later.

If you mean zero, type 0. That is a mark and it is recorded as one.

What it says What it means
Scores save automatically as you type. Nothing entered yet.
Saving… Sending now.
Save 4 scores — a button Four marks are waiting. Tap to send now, or keep typing and they will go on their own. With no signal the button looks like it did nothing — the marks are safe and go when the connection returns.
All scores saved ✓ Nothing you have typed is unsaved.
2 scores need fixing — check the rows marked in red Rejected on the phone. Never sent.
3 scores didn’t save — re-edit to retry Sent, and the school’s system refused them.

The bar shows one thing at a time, and marks still waiting outrank failures. If some marks are queued, you will see Save N scores even when other rows have failed — so check the rows themselves, not only the bar.

All scores saved ✓ does not mean everyone has a mark. It means nothing you typed is unsaved. A student you skipped is still blank.

Three things are rejected, with the reason under the box:

  • Enter a number.
  • Score cannot be negative.
  • Max is 30. — above the component’s maximum, which is shown in the box’s own label as Score (max: 30).

A rejected mark is never queued, so the rest of your marks keep saving while you fix it. The cursor also stays on the rejected row rather than jumping to the next student — except on the last row, where the keyboard closes instead.

Didn’t save is different from needs fixing: the mark left the phone and came back rejected. Those rows show a Failed badge, and one is enough to put Some scores failed to sync at the top of the screen.

Only the rows the school’s system refused turn red, each with its reason under the box — for example score must not exceed 30. The other marks sent with them are sent again and save as usual. Fix the refused mark and re-type it to send it again.

If the reason is student is not in this class, re-typing will not help — the student has moved to another class since you entered the mark. Ask the school office. If the reason is a single word like forbidden with nothing after it, the subject is usually not assigned to you. Ask whoever manages subjects at your school.

Waiting marks show a Pending badge and the bar counts them. Once they are through, the badges clear.

A red box is either a mark the phone rejected — fix it, the bar counts these — or one the school’s system refused, which carries a Failed badge. If a red box also shows Pending, that badge belongs to an earlier mark already on its way; the red box still needs you.

No students — the class has nobody assigned yet, or the register has not reached your phone. Get a signal and open it again.

No components configured for this subject yet — either nobody has set up what is being marked for that subject, or the phone could not reach the school’s system. Check your signal and reopen the screen before asking anyone.

You don’t teach any subjects in this class yet — the same two possibilities. If your signal is fine, the subject has not been assigned to you.

One thing that will not reach the report card

Section titled “One thing that will not reach the report card”

If a report card for that term has already been signed off, a correction you make here will save normally and will not change the card. The bar will say All scores saved ✓ either way. If you are correcting a mark after results have been signed off, tell whoever compiles them.
