What works with no signal, and what does not

Section titled “What works with no signal, and what does not”

Not everything works offline, and the difference matters on the day you are standing in a classroom with one bar. Anything you type in works offline. Anything you look up needs a connection.

Works with no signal Needs a connection
Taking the daily register Messages
Taking a subject or period register Looking up any student’s profile or history
Writing report-card comments Alerts
Affective and psychomotor ratings At-risk lists
Choosing a subject to enter scores or lesson notes against

⚠️ Scores, lesson notes and the subject register are a half-exception. Once the screen has loaded your subject, what you type is saved on your phone like everything else. But choosing the subject needs a connection — so opening one of those screens fresh with no signal shows you no subjects at all, and says nobody has assigned you any. That message is about your connection, not your timetable.

Everything in the left column is saved on your phone the moment you enter it and sent up on its own the next time you have signal. You can close the app in between.

⚠️ One exception, and it is the one that loses records. Absences created by Copy <date> on the daily register are held until you confirm them — they are not sent on their own, and signing out clears them. See Taking the register.

Nothing in the right column is queued up for later. With no signal it will show an error rather than saving — it will not pretend to have saved something it has not. The wording is not always helpful, and there is no “you are offline” banner anywhere in the app, so treat an unexpected error or an empty list as “no signal” until you have checked.

Note that a student’s own profile and history are an online read even for students you teach, though their register is not.

  • Taking the register — including with no signal, and the one screen that silently loses absences if you skip it.
  • Looking up a student — what you can see about them, and why this screen needs a connection when the register does not.

It is being written, in this order:

  • Entering CA and exam scores
  • Writing report-card comments
  • Taking a subject or period register

Until those pages land, your school’s IT administrator is the fastest route to an answer — they can see your account, your classes, and what the app is doing.
